Wildlife management is the term given to the process of selective removal of problem individuals or populations of specific species of wildlife. Other terms for the field include wildlife damage management, wildlife control, and animal damage control to name a few. Some species of wildlife may become habituated to man’s presence, causing property damage or risking transfer of disease to humans or pets (zoonosis). Many wildlife species coexist with humans very successfully, such as commensal rodents which have become more or less dependent on humans.

Squirrels

Skunks
The skunk or polecat may look pretty, but that is just an allusion. Skunks have anal glands that can cover their enemy with a very foul nauseating spray. They normally feed on grubs, worms and occasionally fish. Skunks are a known vector for rabies and should only be dealt with by a professional wild life expert. Contact North GA Wildlife or the Department of Natural Resources if you see a skunk during the day or acting strangely.

Possums
The Opossum is America’s only marsupial. They feed on almost anything that you wouldn’t eat yourself. Over ripe fruit, garbage, slugs, snails and dead animals are just a few of the items on his diet. Hollow logs, caves and even our attics and crawl spaces are places where they may decide to call home. While they may growl and hiss when provoked, opossums are very docile creatures and will usually “play dead” when cornered. Although they have such nature, they can bite and should not be handled.

Foxes

Snakes
